Nick Sullivan

Having worn many hats in the Denver music scene since he first arrived to Denver in 2002, Colorado native Nick Sullivan brings to Silo Sound Studios a dynamic blend of engineering experience that has produced some of Colorado’s most exciting records in recent years.

Whether it was singing and playing guitar in the blues rock ‘n’ roll band American Relay or playing bass in the post-rock instrumental band Peña, Nick knows the other side of the glass as well as he does the engineering side. After enrolling at the University of Colorado at Denver in 2003 for the recording arts program Nick began to track and mix records outside of the school, working with DIY multi-tracking situations and unusual circumstances where ultimately he became very passionate about the record making process and has since pursued the art form.

Starting with Adios Esposito’s self titled release 2004, the same year Nick graduated from UCD, Nick has since gone on to engineer and mix 3 Denver Post top 10 records (Adios Esposito-2004, American Relay-”Corn and Oil” in 2008 and The Knew’s “Pulperia” in 2010) and has also engineered dozens of other local releases. In 2010 Nick received two Grammy nominations for his role as an assistant engineer on Los Lobos’s “Tin Can Trust” record and his since gone on to work with other notable artists as Brad Corrigan of Dispatch, John Common, Russ Christiansen, Slakjaw, and Casey Prestwood and the Burning Angels amongst others.

Inspired by tones from the 50′s and 60′s along with modern techniques today, Nick forges unorthodox techniques with the diverse array of vintage gear at Silo Sound Studios to make records that keep up with the demanding production expectations of today but can still sound alive and unique. In his many years working under Clark Hagan, Nick was passed on the tradition and heritage of old school recording techniques and has since become a devout disciple of a fundamentally analog approach. Whether it be hitting tape for drums and bass or mixing on one of the consoles at Silo Sound, Nick is familiar with the analog side of things but also understands the cost effectiveness, and in some cases essential aspects of working in the digital realm as well.

From rock ‘n’ roll to country, Jazz to Hip Hop, Nick has a proven track record of producing, tracking, and mixing great sounding records and looks to continue to work with artists who share his passion in making great records.
