John Macy

John has been a mainstay in the Colorado music scene since he moved here in 1976 to play steel guitar with Michael Martin Murphey.  A native of Lubbock, TX, John began his music career around the studios in the Boston, MA area as well as playing on the road from D.C. to northern Ontario.  After touring/recording stints with Murphey and Gary Morris, John decided to put studio roots down here, building his first studio in 1979 just outside of Conifer, CO.  John also designed, built and operated other studios such as JMC Studios and Delgany Street Studios in the downtown Denver area, The Corner Studios in Wheatridge, as well as Kerr/Macy Studios, which has now evolved into Macy Sound Studios.

John has racked up some fairly diverse recording credits that run from The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to Gladys Knight and the Pips to Richie Furay and Big Head Todd and the Monsters to Los Lobos and Matt Morris. He has several Gold and Platinum records, including a Grammy winner to his credit, and has worked on Emmy and Ace award winning projects.  He is also involved in many regional high profile projects like John Common, Boulder Acoustic Society, Danielle Ate the Sandwich and many others.  He is as comfortable working with a seasoned Rock and Roll Hall of Famer as he is a budding singer/songwriter, and just might be the perfect for your next project.

John is always available for steel guitar sessions, and you might just catch him playing around town with acts such as Casey James Prestwood and Jimbo Darville among others…
